I recently tried the latest version of BMF's NES Palette (Final Revision 2), and I noticed that, when compared to the default palettes of the emulators I'm using (FCE Ultra 0.97.5 and VirtuaNES 0.92 [English version]), that the colors are somewhat dark, which looks very strange in games such as Faxanadu and Guerilla War. Has anyone else had this problem?

Yeah, that's kinda the way they came out of my capture card. I lightened them up a bit before release, and they looked fine on my monitor, but obviously not all monitors are created equal. I can tell you that they look almost perfect on a ViewSonic A90f+ with UltraBrite mode turned on.

I've considered releasing another, lighter version, but I'm really hesitant to work on that thing any more...

Hey! That tickles!

Sorry - have to disagree. Colors are the most accurate I've ever seen. Problem you're having is this:

Monitors - for the most part display darker than a television.

I have a Radeon 9600 PRO - via S-Video on my 27" Panasonic TV (NTSC), the color/picture quaility compared to the same TV's output for the actual console is almost identical - By far the best of any palette I've ever seen.

Again, depending on display (TV/monitor) and personal preference opinions will vary. However, IMHO, the Final Revision 2 palette is the best thus far. Perfect? No. But that would require:

In part:
"Well, the only TRUE way is to get yourself an oscilloscope and find out the exact hue, saturation, and brightness for each colour in the NES' palette."

Using the Final Revision 2 palette in conjunction with Nestopia - which allows setting scanlines for a four sides of the display - I can create a virtual identical screen compared to the actual console display on the television.

The *only* 'complaint' about this palette - is in one game - and it's my favorite - Rygar. The ground Rygar is actually walking across in the opening screen is suppose to be an off-white/white color - But appears to have a slight red/brown tint/hue to it. I don't know what color (palette) is related to that ground - but it suppose to be a white/off-white color.

All other colors and games look great. I'm not just 'saying this'. I spend *hours* comparing emulator output display with the real consoles to achieve the closest possible match. Final Revision 2 looks fantastic on a *real* TV - as the console would be played on. Really, just a fantastic job.

Thank You for an Excellent Palette - been using it since its release - Sorry I haven't posted my appreciation sooner,
Trebor
